Is children’s Sunday School important today in the life of families in our church? I hope so, while attendance has been better this summer, hopefully we can encourage more to attend. The teachers work very hard to get lessons planned, and we need to support them.
Let’s look at the possibilities.
Is 9:15 a.m. too early? Families need this time together when life’s active schedule has made Sunday morning the only time of relaxation. OK. I hear that. Is it not perhaps “sleeping in time” versus “family time?” And might it not be a good idea to look at how we over schedule our children. Sunday used to be “sacred” time for families, but now the sports teams have made it “their” time.
My child does not want to come. Well, all I can say is who is in charge? Does your child choose whether to attend school? Does your child choose to go to the doctor? Mothers, do not let your children grow up without the knowledge of God and developing a relationship with Him. When they get to be adults, will their time in all the activities we schedule for them be of more value than an intimate relationship with God? Christ can fill their minds and shape their hearts with the knowledge of who they are and enable a meaningful life. Their life does not have to be a meaningless, briefly lit candle where death is the only good. But they must develop spiritual eyes to see God’s purpose for them.
I will let my childen choose where life with God and His church will be their choice. Parents, if you do not provide them with experiential information and exposure to the teachings of our faith will they have a real choice? The goal of our faith is a living relationship with God in this life, and with that relationship God promises that the relationship continues forever. The issue of the Gospel is whether we are alive to God or dead to Him. Living in God’s kingdom today, serving and touching others with God’s love is the purpose of our lives. Right? My friends, valuable human beings are left to shrivel and die in emptiness and meaninglessness because they are not in a relationship with their Creator in His kingdom. Do not let your child be one of them.
Our church does not provide a stimulating program for our children. OK. We can do something about this. You handle the first three issues, and we will handle this one. We are bringing all our resources to make the “45 minutes” a week of spiritual growth for our children stimulating. Just think how much more time they spend with mindless TV?
Keep Sunday, September 12th, on your calendar for RALLY DAY
P.S. We will provide a varied Sunday School environment for adults who bring their children to Sunday School. There will be further illumination of the entire children’s program in C.E.’s “Rally Day Flyer.”
